Hansson DCN — Dynamic Cephalomedullary Nail

Overview

The Hansson Dynamic Cephalomedullary Nail (DCN) from Swemac is indicated for stabilizing trochanteric fractures, including non-unions, malunions and actual or impending pathologic fractures of the proximal femur.

The system pairs the nail with self-cutting, fully threaded locking screws for distal locking, while head fixation is achieved with a dedicated fixation device available in different lengths.

Our contribution

Design and development of the entire system — implants and instrument set — from the first concept to the first implantation, including CE (MDR) and PMDA registration.

Our biggest project to date: 50 instruments and three different nails combined with two cephalic implants. This proximal femur fracture system brought two key novelties to life — an improved way to dynamise the fracture and a new type of nail. “Advanced Dynamisation” results in a better load-sharing device, as demonstrated in various studies. The new “Superior Locking Nail” combines the simplicity of a short nail with the stability of a classic long nail.

Several thousand nails have been implanted and the clinical results are impressive. The project resulted in four new patents for Swemac.
